Mediterranean Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health

The MSTMIH was founded in 2016 due to the increase in the interest in tropical medicine, travel medicine, global health. The society is part of the not-for-profit College of Remote and Offshore Medicine Foundation.

Graduates from the TTEMS courses have shown an interest in continuing their study of tropical medicine and hygiene. The society started by these interested student cohorts.

MSTMIH provided medical support for the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre based in Moshi, Tanzania and works with KCMUCo to jointly accredit our tropical medicine programme.

Future plans for the MSTMIH is to start local research projects at the Kibosho District Hospital located 14km up the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Due to the successful eradication of the p. falciparum malaria parasite, more of the local populations are living long enough to present with cardiovascular diseases. The MSTMIH is conducting several studies on how to address this issue in Northern Tanzania.
